Elon Musk’s Beliefs

Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is not someone who is traditionally associated with religious beliefs. Growing up in South Africa, Musk attended a private school with religious texts as an elective course, though it is unclear whether he pursed this subject or not. In a 2013 interview, Musk stated that he does not follow any particular religion and that if he were raised in a different country, he could have had a different faith. He further noted that he is not an atheist but is agnostic when it comes to God.

In 2015, Musk further emphasised his lack of commitment to any specific faith, noting that the word “believe” implies a blind acceptance of ideas without evidence. In the same interview, he explained that if there is evidence of a divine source of wisdom, he believes it is sensible to stay open to such possibilities. With regard to Jesus, Musk did not directly accept nor deny his existence, but rather he questioned what we can learn from the stories we are told.

Jesus in Ancient Texts

In early documents which predate Christ, there are references to a man named “ Jesus ” who may have been a spiritual teacher or Messiah. Some Christian scholars view Jesus’s biblical narrative as having been constructed from various traditions and ancient stories. Additionally, the New Testament relies heavily on various Gnostic texts and sects. Still, the majority of Christians do not accept such a perspective and remain committed to the view that Jesus existed as a real, historical individual.

In a 2020 paper released by the University of Oxford, researchers pointed out that the language and themes used in the Gospels were already being spoken and written about by various sects and philosophers in the pre-Christian era. Furthermore, some of these texts contained astounding similarities with the teachings attributed to Jesus of Nazareth.
