Education

Elon Musk attended Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, during his undergrad years, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in economics and physics. He was originally enrolled in the engineering program, but dropped out and never earned a degree in that field. Musk described college as a “force of boredom” after a year and half and decided to transfer to the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania. Nevertheless, Musk did not completely abandon his education in engineering, as he was a frequent reader at the library.

Apart from Book knowledge, Musk’s time at Queen’s gave him the opportunity to pursue a few hobbies. Musk spent much of his spare time building rockets, made from ordinary household materials. Musk also took part in robotics competitions and joined the Queen’s chess team. These recreational pursuits gave him the skills he needed to ultimately become a successful entrepreneur and engineer. He has credited the university and its faculty with providing him with the skills and network he needed to become successful.

Career

Elon Musk applied the knowledge he gained from Queen’s University to make a name for himself in the tech industry. After graduating from Wharton, Musk started working as an intern at the famous Silicon Valley startup, Zip2 Corporation. In 1999, he was part of the founding team of a brand new startup called X.com. The company was eventually merged with Confinity, which later became known as PayPal. Musk was the CEO of the new company and it went public in 2002.

As his success story continued, Musk moved on to become the CEO of a number of tech companies. He was the co-founder and CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, two of the most highly-acclaimed companies in the world. Musk is also the founder of SolarCity, a company that develops solar energy and storage solutions. Musk’s business ventures have earned him a personal fortune of over $24 billion.
