When Elon Musk was born in South Africa in 1971 to Canadian father Errol Musk and South African mother Maye Musk, no one suspected he was destined to become a leader in many different industries. Fast forward to 2020 and Musk is credited with transforming the auto industry with his Tesla electric cars, revolutionizing space exploration with SpaceX, spearheading renewable energy technology with SolarCity, and inspiring a generation of futurists and innovators. Musk has championed his famous motto “Don’t doubt your vibe” to encourage people to challenge the status quo and follow their passions no matter what. But what does that phrase mean and how can it be applied?

Musk’s mantra is rooted in the principles of self-confidence and trust in one’s own inner voice. He believes that when an opportunity presents itself, it shouldn’t be disregarded because of doubts or fears. The phrase can also refer to the ability to step outside conventional wisdom and pursue a visionary idea even if it doesn’t seem feasible at the moment. For Musk, believing in oneself before engaging in the ordeal is often the key to success.

Musk’s motto has been welcomed by many whose lives have been bettered by his messages of ambition, perseverance and determination. Entrepreneur Nina Helman believes that “Don’t doubt your vibe” applies to every aspect of life, not just business. “It means to trust in your intuition and go after the things you want even when others push you away,” she said. “It’s about staying true to yourself and following your gut feeling even when it might be hard.”

Self-care coach Tara Brooks has also been a great proponent of this motto and often uses it in her sessions to motivate clients to take risks. “The phrase reminds us that even if we don’t have all the answers, we have the power to make our dreams come true. All we have to do is trust our vision and take action,” Brooks said.
