The name Elon Musk is recognized by any car enthusiast. Rich, powerful and widely loved, Musk has risen to become the unparalleled leader in the production of next-generation cars. Tesla, the company he runs, is widely known for its blend of style, functionality and sustainability. The automotive industry must now reconcile itself with the idea that electric-powered vehicles are not just a trend but the way of the future. But does Elon Musk design Tesla cars?

It is said that Elon Musk does not actually design cars or engines. However, he does provide key overall design directions for Tesla vehicles. He looks over the features, design, and components of the car, ensures their performance consistency, and often makes changes to update and keep the Tesla cars up to date. Musk is known for his keen attention to detail and desire to implement good design practices. He even chips in with the design of unique features like the Tesla Falcon Wing doors on the Model X.

Musk is also responsible for supervising the road performance of production vehicles. He makes sure that Tesla cars are of the highest quality, both in terms of aesthetics and engineering. He monitors the supply chain, tests the car prototypes, and performs tests on important components before they are incorporated into production models. He even assists with the design and engineering of fully autonomous vehicles.

It is clear that Musk doesn’t actually design cars, but his general direction touching on key aspects of the design is evident. Tesla co-founder, business magnate and philanthropist, JB Straubel, revealed on a podcast how Musk had gone through the Tesla Model S from scratch : from the seats, door handles, window switches, and much more. Straubel also notes that Musk had a way of making everything simpler and easier for the consumer.
