Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of social media giant Facebook and one of the world’s wealthiest people, is no stranger to ambitious real estate pursuits. After all, it hardly seems like a coincidence that he chose his well-known quote, “The journey is the reward,” to define his ever-growing real estate portfolio. But how many homes does Mark Zuckerberg actually own?

As of 2020, the Facebook founder owns five pieces of property around the world. Of these, the centerpiece is a lavish estate nestled among the hills of Palo Alto, California, which he purchased in 2011 for a reported $7 million. Spanning 5.3 acres, the property originally consisted of four separate lots. It features a 5,616-square-foot main house, along with ample outdoor spaces, a swimming pool, and a terraced garden.

Zuckerberg’s Palo Alto residence is just one of two properties he owns in the area. He also owns a 4,000-square-foot townhouse that sits adjacent to the main house, which he bought in 2012 for a reported $1.9 million. Only a handful of people ever get to actually see the two properties, as the grounds are heavily guarded and largely secluded from public view.
