There are many people who are surprised by the physical appearance of one of the wealthiest men in the world and founder of the most successful social media platform of the 21st century, Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg’s robotic looks and uncanny movements have been the talk of many after his infamous Congressional hearings in 2018, which left the public wondering why he looked like a robot and why his actions seemed so strained.

To better understand what drives Zuckerberg’s slightly mechanical appearance, you must first understand his public image and media persona. Since the founding of Facebook, Zuckerberg has cultivated a robotic-like persona and his robotic tendencies often mimic the mannerisms of technology. For instance, in interviews, he speaks in a monotone, calculated voice and lacks emotion. His attire further cements this robotic image, with a wardrobe full of solid colors and lack of personality. He speaks in a robotic fashion, often avoiding emotion and conveying facts in an automated manner, mimicking the way technology works.

Critics suggest that Zuckerberg’s robotic nature go beyond mere mannerisms and activities; he seems to possess an unnatural physicality. He stares unnaturally and holds himself still, like a machine, coming off as overly unnatural and robotic in his movements. This awkwardness and sense of strangeness are further emphasized in his somewhat jerky movements.

It is noteworthy to mention that Zuckerberg’s robotic tendencies appear to be the result of his very guarded and limiting style of communication. Unlike many other tech-giants, Zuckerberg rarely speaks to the media outside of official announcements. This could explain why his unnatural movements and mannerisms seem so exaggerated when he is speaking publicly. This can also explain why Zuckerberg appears so wooden, since it is likely that he has not rehearsed or has had little experience speaking in interviews.
