It’s hard to imagine a world without Facebook. The social media giant has revolutionised how we communicate and interact. But, who is the brains behind this global phenomenon? The answer is Mark Zuckerberg, or Zuck as he is sometimes known. But of course, the question that follows is whether he really did create Facebook?

Many arguments have been made against this claim, the main one being that Zuckerberg is a ‘mere’ programmer and not an inventor or creator. Furthermore, some have argued that the idea for Facebook was actually stolen from other websites, including Facemash, a predecessor of the website created by Zuckerberg and his friends. Others, however, have argued that Facemash and other websites simply provided Zuckerberg with the inspiration for his own invention.

The issue has also been explored from a legal perspective, with a class-action lawsuit claiming that Zuckerberg had stolen the Facebook idea from fellow Harvard students, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss. While the lawsuit was eventually dismissed, it provided an interesting insight into how Zuckerberg had built a successful website out of inspiration, determination and hard work. It also showed how he had taken a relatively simple concept and made it into something much more powerful and influential.

Regardless of the controversies surrounding it, there is no denying that Zuckerberg and his team have achieved something remarkable with Facebook. The website, which initially started as a way for Harvard students to socialise online, has now become one of the most successful websites of all time. It has given users access to a whole world of information and allowed them to connect with people all over the world.
