In the weeks since former US president Donald Trump had his ban from twitter, the speculation of Trump being allowed by twitter to come back has been the center of the news. Elon Musk is one of those people who is at the heart of these speculations. The tech innovator and the powerful businessman said on Joe Rogan’s podcast, that he would be “fine” with Donald Trump returning to twitter. Whether or not Elon Musk’s views on the matter actually influence the decision remains to be seen.

Despite the speculations of Donald Trump having his account reinstated, it is highly unlikely that that will be the case. After the former president’s comments about the Capital riots, he was eventually banned for good, having his account permanently suspended.

Since this particular ban on Donald Trump’s account, a wide range of tech platforms have banned Twitter. Starting with Amazon, which suspended services to the social media platform, and Apple, which has taken aim at the company by removing Parler from the App Store. The widespread criticism of the US president resulting from the insurrection of the US Capitol has also had an effect on the company.

Due to the actions and comments of Trump, Twitter has also come under heated criticism as well as that of Elon Musk. It is no surprise that the tech mogul was in favour of the former president as he has been vocal with his support in the past. Despite the criticisms henceforth, Elon Musk still stands by his stance and believes that Donald Trump should still be allowed on the platform. The tech innovator said “I don’t think anyone believes it was an attempt to conduct a coup.”

Political Criticism

Twitter’s decision to permanently ban Donald Trump has been met with mixed opinions from citizens. Many are in agreement of the decision made by Twitter as it was an appropriate response to Trump’s involvement in the insurrection at the US Capitol. Whilst the majority in agreement, there are those that are critical of what they perceive as an attack on freedom of speech.

Despite the arguments of freedom of speech and censorship, there are still legal ramifications of Trump’s involvement in the insurrection and this is one of the primary reasons why restoring Trump’s account would not be the right decision to make. This is something that Elon Musk also agrees with and has openly stated that he would not have Trump reinstated to the platform.

However, Twitter could face a lot of backlash if they decide to go against Elon Musk’s sentiments, as the tech innovator has become a powerful figure in the tech world. The pressure from him could possibly influence its decision too, making any talk of restoring Trump’s account seem even more unlikely.

Ban Implications

The permanent ban of Donald Trump from twitter has caused other implications as well. Many individuals have been taking to social media to express their opinions and share their views. This could also be seen in the stock market, where the value of Twitter’s shares dropped significantly post the ban.

Twitter is also facing potential legal battles and the consequence of the ban could damage Twitter’s reputation in the future. Whilst the platform was able to see the potential harm posed by the former president’s tweets, the actions taken since then, could have long-lasting effects.

Critics of the former president have argued that the ban was necessary to protect people from the actions of the US Capitol. But the implications of the ban are far and wide, and these implications may not be in Twitter’s favor.

Actions to be Taken

The decision now rests with Twitter and whether or not it would go ahead with Elon Musk’s suggestion has yet to be seen. Despite the tech innovator’s support of the former president, he understands the implications of the ruling and has agreed that the reinstatement of Trump may not be the smartest decision.

The actions now to be taken should be aimed at restoring balance and moving forward. It is possible that Donald Trump could still have his account suspended, but there needs to be a healing process. Twitter needs to decide the best course of action, and this could be a difficult task.

Whilst there have been some talks of Trump being able to come back to twitter after the ban imposed on him, this does not seem to be the most feasible option. Despite Elon Musk’s opinion, the decision should ultimately be made by Twitter itself.
