The successes and accomplishments of Elon Musk, the tech-mogul who is the mastermind behind leading companies like Tesla, SpaceX and SolarCity, cannot be understated. Since Musk began his career out of college, he has made remarkable progress in disrupting the technological world we live in, and with his current projects, many are asking, is Elon Musk really trying to take over the world?

Though some of his projects, notably Tesla and SpaceX, are seen by many as flashy and simply serving to satiate Musk’s own ambitions, the truth is that many of Musk’s feats have the potential to address some of the world’s biggest challenges – namely in the areas of clean energy and energy storage, sustainable transportation and reducing the impact of global warming.

Not only are Musk’s projects tackling real world problems, but his reach also appears to be expanding faster than many thought possible. From a market capitalization of a few billion dollars in 2010, Tesla is now worth around $590 Billion. Added to that, Musk is the world’s second richest man, and the number of projects he is involved in keeps growing.

Furthermore, Musk’s successes with his various projects, from reusable rockets to the development of autonomous driving, have inspired admiration and a degree of obsessiveness amongst his cult of followers. Such fans are often willing to make extreme sacrifices, such as eating only one Elon Musk branded meal a week to save up money to buy a Tesla, with many pledging loyalty to the Musk ‘brand’.
