When most people think of Elon Musk, the first thing that might come to mind would be his Tesla electric cars, his space exploration projects, or his groundbreaking work in robotics. But whether or not he’s alive is a question many are wondering. There are many rumors about his death, but the truth is that Elon Musk is currently alive and well — and still making big things happen.

Musk’s immense success did not come easy. Born and raised in South Africa, he was accepted into an undergraduate program at the University of Pennsylvania at the age of 17. He left the program in 1992 and moved to Canada, where he worked a variety of odd jobs and attended Queen’s University. In 1995, he headed to California, where he eventually secured a spot at Stanford University. Although Musk only attended Stanford for two days, he took advantage of the opportunities available to him and enrolled in a number of computer science classes. He quickly established himself in the tech scene.

Musk struck it “rich” after selling his first internet startup, Zip2, to Compaq Computers for $307 million in cash and $34 million in stock options. He followed this up by creating X.com in 1997, an online payment platform that would eventually become better known as PayPal. In 2002, eBay acquired PayPal for $1.5 billion in stocks, 35% of that going to Musk.

Since then, Musk has gone on to create and help revolutionize many other industries, from alternative energy through Tesla Motors, to aerospace hardware with SpaceX. He also founded the non-profit The Boring Company, which develops tunneling and mass transit solutions.
