Elon Musk is now the second largest individual owner of Twitter, owning more than 12 percent of the social media platform. However, he is not the sole owner. Other Twitter owners include its founders Jack Dorsey and Ev Williams, as well as Silver Lake, AllianceBernstein, and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., which all own parts of the company. In total, these five entities own a combined 66 percent of Twitter.

Elon Musk is no stranger to the tech world, having founded X.com, one of the first online banking companies, and later Tesla and SpaceX. In 2018, he announced that he was stepping away from his role as Chairman of Tesla and has since become more actively involved in Twitter. His tweets often go viral, with memes, commentary, and debates springing up around each post.

However, he is not the sole owner of Twitter. In 2013, the company undertook an IPO, making its stock available to the public. As a result, it is now owned by many institutional companies and individuals. Most of these are venture capital funds, but there are also hundreds of individual retail investors that also own parts of Twitter.

There are several benefits to having a publicly owned company like Twitter. One of these is that having a large number of shareholders allows for more diversified investments. That is, the risk of any individual owner going bankrupt or facing financial problems is reduced if their holdings are spread out among other investors.
