Elon Musk is a prominent figure in the technology, business and innovation world. The South African-born entrepreneur and engineer is one of the most highly visible people on the planet and known for his involvement in renewable energy, space exploration and transportation, as well as for being the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX. People often question whether or not Elon Musk is African American and this article will answer this question.

Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa in 1971 and is of mixed-race lineage. His mother, Maye Musk, is a dietitian and model from Canada. His father, Erroll Musk, is a South African electromechanical engineer, investor, and pilot. Musk’s father is of Dutch ancestry, his second wife is of British ancestry, and his third wife is of Spanish ancestry. Given this, it is accurate to say that Elon Musk is not of African American heritage.

Despite his lack of African American heritage, Elon Musk is not a stranger to issues of racial injustice. Over the years he has garnered both criticism and admiration for his vocal stance and advocacy on Black Lives Matter and other civil rights issues. However, he has never specifically identified himself as African American, nor has he attempted to downplay the diversity of his lineage.

In fact, Elon Musk has shown tremendous respect for the African-American community through his actions. He has made significant investments in organizations such as the Central Park Conservancy and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, which help advance the careers of African American students, and also strongly supports other African American owned companies. Additionally, Musk’s Visions Grand Tour Public Institution is a charity and educational organisation dedicated to providing STEM students of colour access to resources and knowledge.
