1. Early Life and Education of Elon Musk

Elon Musk was born in 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa. His education began in the internationally-focused English-speaking school, and he went on to earn bachelor degrees in Economics and Physics from the University of Pennsylvania. He also received a degree in business from the Wharton School of Business. Musk famously started to teach himself computer programming, and eventually went on to create Zip2, an online city guide, with his brother and business partner, Kimbal.

2. Grade Performance and Educational Difficulties

Even though Elon Musk is one of the most successful entrepreneurs and innovators of our time, he did not have an easy time growing up or in school. He was an introverted and shy student in school, which meant that he often experienced difficulties making and keeping friends. Musk’s grades during his high school and college years were not stellar. He earned an “A” in Physiology, an “A-” in English and a “B” in Math and Economics. Musk also had some dyslexia, which made it difficult for him to focus and perform well academically.

3. Motivation to Succeed

Despite his educational difficulties, Elon Musk was driven to excel in school, and eventually found success. He credits his mother, Maye Musk, for his relentless work ethic, saying that he was inspired to work hard because of the incredible effort she put into raising him and his siblings. Furthermore, Musk had an innate curiosity, which led him to pursue his passions and learn the necessary skills to succeed in business.

4. Focus on Entrepreneurship Over Education

As Elon Musk became more interested in computing and business, he lost interest in school, and eventually dropped out of Stanford University to pursue a career in entrepreneurship. Musk’s focus on entrepreneurship led to the creation of numerous successful companies, including SpaceX and Tesla. Musk’s success proves that in many cases, pursuing one’s passions is a more effective way of achieving success, than excelling academically.

5. Academic Credentials and Achievements
