Elon Musk is one of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, renowned for his ambitious projects and technological innovations. He is most well-known for his involvement with Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, and Amazon Web Services. But, before he became an executive, investor, and innovator, where did Elon Musk get his education?

Musk got his primary schooling at the Waterkloof House Preparatory School in Pretoria, South Africa. He attended his high school in Pretoria too at the Bryanston High School, before transferring to the private school Pretoria Boys High School in Pretoria. It was here that Musk developed an aptitude for computers and excelled in classes related to mathematics and physics. He completed his high-school education at the age of 17, in 1989.

Shortly after, in 1989, Musk moved to Canada to study his undergraduate degree at the Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He earned two bachelor’s degrees—one in economics, the other in physics. In 1992 Musk applied, and was accepted to the prestigious University of Pennsylvania. He enrolled in the dual-degree program; undertaking a bachelor’s in economics from the Wharton School, and a bachelor’s in physics from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Elon Musk didn’t stop there. He went on to gain approval from Stanford University but dropped out after two days to make sure his startup, Zip2 was successful. Over the next few years, Elon Musk bet on his own success and earned hundreds of millions of dollars in cash, stock, and other assets when Zip2 was acquired by Compaq. He moved to Silicon Valley, launched X.com, which eventually became PayPal, and set his trajectory to becoming the tech entrepreneur we know today.
