Elon Reeve Musk is an Entrepreneur, Engineer, Investor born June 28, 1971 in Pretoria, South Africa. He is a strong advocate for sustainable energy and sustainable transportation. He is the founder and CEO of SpaceX, the founder, CEO and lead designer of Tesla Motors and Chairman of SolarCity. Musk is also the founder and investor of Paypal, the online payment system. During his career he has achieved a significant number of awards, honors, investments.
Early Life
Elon’s parents, Maye Musk, a Canadian model and dietitian, and Errol Musk, an electromechanical engineer, divorced when Elon was 10. He had one brother and one sister. Growing up he was always interested in technology and had a strong ability to grasp complex concepts. He was an avid reader and exhibited a strong desire to learn all he could. At the age of 10, he taught himself computer programming and sold his first game at the age of 12.
Education
Elon attended the University of Pennsylvania and obtained both a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Whilst attending university he also studied business and engineering at Stanfordfwith the ambitions to start his own companies.
Career
In 1999, Musk founded X.com, which later merged with Confinity and became Paypal, the world’s leading online payment system. Musk was a major contributor to the success of Paypal and he was rewarded with US$ 165 million following the company’s sale to eBay.
Two years later, Musk founded SpaceX, a privately-funded aerospace manufacturing and space transport services company. The ultimate goal of SpaceX is to make the human race multi-planetary by building a transportation system that can bring humans from Earth to Mars and other planets.
In 2003, Musk co-founded Tesla Motors, an electric vehicle manufacturer. Tesla has become one of the most successful electric car companies in the world, and has initiated a major shift in the auto industry toward electric vehicles.
Family
Elon Musk has five children: three boys and two girls with his first wife, Justine Wilson. Elon and Justine married in 2000 and divorced in 2008. His sons are Griffin, Xavier and Kai. He has a daughter, Saxon, and Taylor with his former partner, actress Talulah Riley. Musk was married to Talulah Riley twice after his divorce, the first time in 2010 and the second in 2013. Their second marriage ended in a divorce in March 2016.
Elon has two additional children with his current partner, musician/actress Grimes, a son named X Æ A-Xii born in 2020, and a daughter born in May 2021. Musk’s brother, Kimbal, is an entrepreneur and his sister, Tosca, is an author and film director.
